Baseball Fantasy Trip 2009

August 4 - 8, 2009

Day 1 (Click HERE to view pictures!)

THE BASEBALL GODS WERE SLEEPING TONIGHT AS THE RED SOX LOST AND THE YANKEES WON.

All 48 of us left the Alfond Youth Center at 5:45 am to head to New York City and our Hotel. It was a beautiful morning and the ride was great as we headed to our destination. With the exception of the Yankee Fans the group has been great and they get along super. We landed at the Hotel at around 3:00 pm and after checking in we rested a bit before we drove to the shopping mall. We couldn't find a parking place so we headed to the ball park and had supper there. We saw a great game between the Cardinals and Mets with the Cardinals winning 12 to 7 in ten innings.

We had to listen to the Yankee fans as there lead is now 1 and 1/2 games. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day for the Sox. We got back to the Hotel fairly late but we can sleep in tomorrow morning before we head to King of Prussia. Hope the weather was warm back home as our weather was terrific.

Day 2 (Click HERE to view pictures!)

The Baseball Gods were not with us today. The Yankees beat the Blue Jays and the Red Sox lost to Tampa Bay.

We are now 2 and 1/2 games behind.

We were in Philly today to see the Phillies play the Rockies and the Phillies won. It was a good game and everyone went home happy as the home team won. Citizens Bank Park is a beautiful Ball Park and it is very fan friendly as everything is easy to get to. The crowd was huge and the Philly fans are excellent. They love their team but they are also easy to talk too. We had supper at the King of Prussia Shopping Mall and some of the people want to go back again. We stayed at the Sleep Inn and after a good nights sleep we will head to DC in the morning.

Day 3 (Click HERE to view pictures!)

The Baseball Gods are unhappy with us as they allowed the Yankees to hammer the Sox and take a 3 and 1/2 lead in the American League East.

On Thursday Morning we left our Hotel in King of Prussia and headed to DC to see the Nationals play the Marlins in a 12:30 p.m. game. We arrived at the ball park and we really liked what we saw. The Marlins took an early lead of 6 to 0 but the Marlins pitching staff could not hold the lead and the final ended up 13 to 9 with the Nationals winning. We had supper at the Old Post Office Pavilion before we visited the White House and the World War II Memorial. We ran out of time as the traffic was very heavy. We got to the Hotel in Beltsville, Maryland to get some sleep before we did our sight seeing in Philly on Friday.

Day 4 (Click HERE to view pictures!)

Again the Baseball Gods were not looking out for the Red Sox as they lost 2 to 0 to the Yankees in 15 Innings. We are now 4 and 1/2 games behind the Yankees and in danger of losing the wild card.

We arrived in Philly around 1:00 pm to do some sight seeing. Some of the high lights included the Mint, Liberty Bell, Ben Franklin's grave site, the Betsey Ross house, Elfreth's Alley, Ben Franklin's Court Yard, Ben Franklin's Underground Museum, the Post Office, and the Printing House. The weather was beautiful and we ended our day in Philadelphia by having supper at the Bourse. We arrived at the Stadium at 5:00 pm and we saw a terrific game as the Marlins scored 3 runs in the first 2 innings and they beat the Phillies by a score of 3 to 2. We arrived at the Hotel at Mid night and some of the people will go shopping at the Mall while the rest will sleep in. We plan on leaving for New York by 11:00 am to see the Red Sox and Yankees. It should be a fun day. We need a win really bad.

Day 5 (Click HERE to view pictures!)

We woke up in King of Prussia to a warm and sunny day and some of the people went shopping to a huge shopping mall. We packed the bus with the rest of us and by 11:15 am we were headed to the Big Apple to see the Sox play the Yankees. We arrived at Yankee Stadium by 2:30 pm and after a walk around the park the game started at around 4:00 pm and again it wasn't pretty for our Sox. We lost again by a score of 5 to 0 and we haven't scored in 28 straight innings. It's bad enough to lose but to be shut out lose to the Yankees is a lot worse. We left the Stadium at around 8:30 pm and arived home at about 4:30 am in the morning.

I would like to take this time to extend a special thanks to everyone on this trip as this was the best group that I have had in the 8 years of the Baseball Fantasy Trip. Everyone seemed to get along and we had a lot of fun with the Yankee fans. This was the worse trip of the 8 in terms of wins and losses (the Red Sox were 0 and 5) but it was the best in terms of the fun and laughter. Hope to see all of you for our 9th trip in 2010.

A special thanks to Ed and Robin for all of their hard work during this trip. They went far beyond what is expected, especially the long ride home.

Again, a big THANK YOU to everyone.
