Baseball Fantasy Trip 2010
July 28 through August 1, 2010
Day 1 - July 28, 2010 (Click HERE to view pictures!)
The Baseball Gods were with us today as the Red Sox beat the Angels 7 to 3
We arrived at the Hotel at around 4:00 pm and we had an hour to relax before we headed to the Park to see the Diamondbacks and the Phillies. Roy Holliday was pitching for the Phillies and he took a shutout into the ninth before he gave up a single run and the Phillies won 7 to 1. The bats for the Phillies came alive with some keys hits and 7 runs. The crowd was huge and they really love their team as most of the fans had Philly gear on and they were loud. Citizens Bank Park is a beautiful ball part and it is easy to get around and everything is close to your seat. We got back to the Hotel at around 11:00 pm and we had a bunch of tired people. On Thursday we go to Washington to see the Braves and Nationals in a day game.
Day 2 - July 29, 2010 (Click HERE to view pictures!)
Today was an unusual day. The Red Sox didn't play and as we headed for Washington, DC it was cloudy and muggy with a threat of rain and thunder storms. As we headed to DC the sun came out and it looked like it was going to be a warm and sunny day. The game started on time and our seats were sun drenched for the first 2 innings and then we were in the shade. In the bottom half of the 6th inning the game was stopped for ablout an hour as it rained and we had a thunder and lightning storm that was really close. The Nationals were ahead 4 to 3 and it looked like the game was headed to extra innings. The Nationals scored an extra run in the 8th inning and the final score was 5 to 3 in favor of the Nats. After the game, we went to the Old Post Pavilion to have supper and to shop. I took some of the people to the Archives Museum but mo0st of the people stayed behind. We met the bus at 7:30 pm and again the skies opened up and it poured for abloy 15 minutes. Most of us got really wet and then we headed to Laurel, Maryland and our Hotel. We had a chance to relax before we hit the beds to get some rest before we head to New York City to see the Mets play the Diamondbacks in New York.
Day 3 - July 30, 2010 (Click HERE to view pictures!)
The Baseball Gods were against us today as the Red Sox lost 6 to 5 but they helped the Rays as they beat the Yankees 3 to 2.
The weather was super as we took the 4 hour bus ride from Laurel, Maryland to Rochelle Park, New Jersey and our Hotel. We arrived at the Hotel at 4:00 pm and we left for the Ball Park at 5:45 pm to head to Citi Field to see the Mets play the Diamond Backs. The pitching was not very good but both teams scored a lot of runs as the Diamond Backs beat the Mets by a score of 9 to 7. It was an exciting game to watch as a home run by the Mets may have given them the win. The traffic going in to the Park was heavy and due to an accident after the game it took us longer to get back to the Hotel than we thought it would. We arrived at around 12:30 am. We will be going to the Hall of Fame on Saturday and we are expecting a great day.
Day 4 - July 31, 2010 (Click HERE to view pictures!)
We had a long but great day on Saturday. We left the Hotel at 8:00 am to head to Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame. Four hours later we arrived and the ride seemed short as the view of the countryside that we had was beautiful. We spent 5 hours at Cooperstown to visit the museum, Doubleday Park, the stores, and restaurants. 5 hours was not enough as there is just too much to see and take in. The weather was beautiful and some of us had a chance to see a Babe Ruth game (two innings) at the ball field as they usually have 3 games a day on that field. We left Cooperstown at 5:00 pm and we headed towards West Springfield, Mass. and our Hotel. We had supper after we checked into the Hotel as there were many places to choose from within walking distance. We got into bed early because we head into Boston in the morning to visit Quincy Market and then take in the game between the Tigers and the Sox.
Day 5 - August 1, 2010 (Click HERE to view pictures!)
Another great day for the Baseball Fantasy Trip as the weather was overcast and gray but it wasn't raining. Our seats wre close to the field so we really didn't want it to be real hot. We arrived at Quincy Market at around 10:00 am and we had a couple of hours to shop and eat. You never have enough time in Quincy Market but nat Noon we boarded the bus to get to Fenway. We didn't have to walk far as we got off near Gate B and our seats were close. We were in the shade until about the 7th inning and then we were warmed up as the sun hit us directly. The Sox had a great game until the 9th as the Tigers scored 3 runs to tie the game and the3 Sox scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th on a throwing error by the catcher. The Rays beat the Yankees so we gained a game on the Yanks and stayed even on the Rays.
I hope that everyone had a great time on this trip and hopefully I will see you all on the 10th Annual Baseball Fantasy Trip in 2011.
A special thanks to Ed for getting us around safe and sound during the 5 days.
Again, a big THANK YOU to everyone.
